  1. Will my subscriber information be shared or sold?

    No. Your information is only used to send you the messages that you ask to receive. Subscriber data is not used for any other purpose within MCPS, nor is it shared or sold to other agencies.

  2. Can I subscribe more than one e-mail address?

    If you want to receive messages at more than one address, for instance, in work and personal accounts, you must subscribe more than once with the system.

  3. How much e-mail will I get?

    That depends on the choices you make when you subscribe. QuickNotes offers a monthly e-mail newsletter and emergency notifications, along with periodic updates on topics you select. With the exception of a few messages sent to all MCPS QuickNotes subscribers, you will only receive messages on the topics you select during the subscription process.

    If you decide you are getting too many messages, you may access your subscription information at any time and update your choices.

  4. Does this replace phone calls, notes home, and other personal contacts from my child’s school?

    No. MCPS QuickNotes will not be used to replace communication with you about your child.

  5. How do I update my MCPS QuickNotes subscription?

    You can update your subscription information at any time by following the link at the bottom of any e-mail sent through our MCPS QuickNotes service. The link will take you to the “Update Your Subscription” page, where you can make any changes you’d like for the type of information you receive. Change your preferences and click “update.” You can also change your e-mail address on this page.

  6. How do I unsubscribe?

    Included in each message you receive from the QuickNotes service is a link to the ”Update Your Subscription” page, where you can make any changes you’d like to your subscription, including unsubscribing from all QuickNotes messages. To unsubscribe, check the box at the bottom of the page and click “update.”

  7. What if I change my e-mail address?

    If you decide to change your e-mail address, simply click on the ”Update My Subscription” link at the bottom of any prior e-mail, sent through the MCPS QuickNotes service. You will be taken to the “Update Your Subscription” page, where you can make whatever changes you wish. Be sure to click the “update” button at the bottom of the page.

  8. What if the system doesn’t recognize my e-mail address and I can’t reach my subscription information?

    If the system doesn’t recognize your e-mail address, then you used a different e-mail address originally when you signed up. Be sure you are using the e-mail address you provided for QuickNotes.

  9. Why don’t I get messages in a timely manner?

    A delay in receipt of a message should be reported to your Internet service provider. MCPS ensures quick delivery of all QuickNotes messages to e-mail service providers, but cannot control the time it takes for your provider to deliver the messages to your mailbox. You might also check with your Internet provider to see that mcpsquicknotes@mcpsmd.org is added to your permitted senders list.

  10. Can I use this service if I use spam blocking?

    Messages sent from this service are not spam, but if you use some type of filtering or spam blocking for your inbox, you may need to permit messages from mcpsquicknotes@mcpsmd.org. The best way to ensure that you get your messages in a timely manner is to add mcpsquicknotes@mcpsmd.org to your permitted senders list.

  11. Why does my QuickNotes contain incorrect characters? Why can’t I read my QuickNotes in Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish, or Vietnamese?

    Both the text-only and HTML versions of QuickNotes are encoded in UTF-8. To view the characters correctly, you must set your encoding to UTF-8.

    • To set encoding to UTF-8 for Web-based e-mail (e.g. Yahoomail, Gmail, Hotmail):

      With a QuickNotes e-mail newsletter open, select View, then select (Character) Encoding, then select UTF-8 from the toolbar of your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox). If UTF-8 is not in the list, it should appear under “more.”

    • To set encoding to UTF-8 for Outlook 2003:

      With a QuickNotes e-mail newsletter open, select View, then select Encoding, then select UTF-8 from the toolbar. If UTF-8 is not in the list, it should appear under “more.”

    • To set encoding to UTF-8 for Outlook 2007:

      With a QuickNotes e-mail newsletter open, select Other Actions in the actions section of the toolbar, then select encoding, then select UTF-8.

    After selecting UTF-8, the characters should display correctly.

  12. I get a lot of SPAM. Will subscribing make it worse?

    Subscribing to the MCPS QuickNotes system will have no impact on the amount of spam you receive. This system is used exclusively to send MCPS QuickNotes messages. Your information is only used to send you the messages that you ask to receive. Subscriber data is not used for any other purpose within MCPS, nor is it shared or sold to other agencies.
