MCPS offers a variety of rigorous, engaging and specialized academic programs for students at all grade levels. Some programs are open only to students in the sponsoring school, while others are open to all students in the county. These programs have different entrance criteria and application processes. This checklist provides some useful information for parents that are interested in the Choice process and application-only programs for their child(ren).

Middle School Magnet Consortium
- Attend open houses during the month of October to learn about the Choice programs at Northeast Consortium (NEC) and Downcounty Consortium (DCC) high schools or at Middle School Magnet Consortium (MSMC) middle schools. You can also attend information meetings to learn more about application-only programs at the Centers for the Highly Gifted in various elementary schools and, at Roberto Clemente, Eastern, and Takoma Park middle schools.Get dates and locations
- Once you have decided on the program that best fits your child’s interest, complete the application and submit it by the Friday, November 8 deadline. Consortia parents will receive Choice forms in the mail in mid-October.
