Helping Students Prepare for Life After High School
Students at Wheaton High School have developed a new elective course that will provide their peers with critical skills that are essential to life beyond high school. The pilot course, Life 101, is designed to introduce students to pragmatic skills for life and develop their interpersonal skills to help prepare them for college and career. Specific skills such as effective communication, collaboration, organization and problem-solving are emphasized while also focusing on practical content such as considering housing options, budgeting, applying for mortgages and loans, health and nutrition, filing for taxes, and banking and borrowing.
The course will be offered at Wheaton High School during the 2016–2017 school year.
Watch students Fatima Talib and Omari Joyner talk about how and why the course was developed.
