Interested in a Continuing Professional Development Course or Becoming an Administrator?

education162056140Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for the fall semester 2013 are available for registration through the Professional Development Online (PDO) system. The fall semester runs from mid-September 2013 through January 2014. Teachers have priority registration in all CPD courses. Support professional staff and substitute teachers may register on PDO for CPD courses but will be considered on a space-available basis.

The CPD registration fee will be assessed to permanent employees via payroll deductions after the successful completion of the course. Employees with outstanding balances must clear their accounts before registering for new classes. Employees on long-term leave should contact the CPD office to make payment arrangements.

Seeking Future School Administrators

MCPS is looking for motivated, dedicated, skillful and creative people to become school-based administrators. Recruitment and development of future administrators ensures that MCPS continues to deliver a quality education for every student. Ideal candidates include teacher leaders who have supported student achievement in the classroom, served in leadership capacity, provided professional development to other teachers, and/or developed curriculum and programs at the school or at the county level. If you want to learn more about becoming a school-based administrator in MCPS, register for the Future Administrators Workshop (FAW) on PDO.

The FAW prepares participants by emphasizing job requirements, performance expectations, preparation for the interview process, and a preliminary writing assessment. It outlines how to apply for the Future Administrators Pool. Participants will talk with current school administrators and with directors and supervisors from Central Services. The course is highly interactive and attendance at all four sessions is mandatory.

The workshop dates are: Sept. 25, Oct. 9, Oct. 22 and Nov. 6, from 4:30–6:30 p.m., at the Festival Center at Muddy Branch, 283 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg.  Registration for the workshop series is on PDO.

*If you completed the FAW more than three years ago and are trying to re-enter the Future Administrators Pool, you do not have to re-take the workshop. The FAW Refresher Course is on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Register on PDO.
