Mental Health and Wellness Forum Set for April 22
Staff, students and families are invited to a Mental Health and Wellness Forum from 1–5 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at Gaithersburg High School.
The event, which is being hosted by MCPS and the Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA), will discuss mental health challenges facing youth today and provide available resources within MCPS and the greater community.
The day’s events will include a talk on the state of youth mental health and wellness in Montgomery County. That session will be led by Ann Mazur, CEO of EveryMind, and Ananya Tadikonda, a junior at Richard Montgomery High School, and a candidate for the MCPS Student Member of the Board of Education for 2018–2019.
There will also be a session on crisis management and suicide prevention presented by Dr. Elizabeth Rathbone, MCPS coordinator of student health and wellness, and Rachel Larkin, director of crisis prevention and intervention for EveryMind.
Breakout sessions will cover topics such as coping with anxiety and stress; mindfulness; restorative practices; keeping kids safe online; physical exercise and mental health; and child abuse and neglect. There will also be a Spanish-language panel led by Identity.
