New Leave Bank Established for Employees Facing Catastrophic Family Situations
For the first time ever, a new leave bank will provide sick leave to MCPS bargaining unit members that have exhausted all available forms of leave (personal, annual and sick leave).
The newly created Family Medical Crisis Leave Bank (FMCLB) is a separate bank from the current sick leave bank, requiring a separate enrollment and a separate contribution. The Bank is intended solely for situations that are catastrophic and life-threatening to members of an employee’s immediate family and require that the employee be temporarily absent from his/her assignment. This is not available for an employee’s personal illness or injury.
For more information on the policies and procedures for the FMCLB, see the Memorandum of Agreement.
Open enrollment in the FMCLB began on Monday, Feb. 12 and ends March 2, 2018. To enroll, employees must complete an enrollment form and submit it to their union by March 2, 2018. The FMCLB is part of negotiated agreements between the Board of Education and the three employee unions. Learn more and access your union’s enrollment form.
If you enroll during the open enrollment period, the six-month waiting period to use the Bank will be waived.
The initial contribution to join the bank is one day of sick leave. Future contributions will be assessed by the FMCLB on an as-needed basis. Members of the bank will be notified well in advance of any future needed contribution.
