2014 MCPS Charity Campaign
Employees who wish to contribute to the 2014 MCPS Charity Campaign have until Friday, Nov. 22 to donate.
There are three ways to give:
- Credit card: Donate online using a secure portal for each charity.
- Check: Write a one-time donation check and give it to your site coordinator.
- Payroll Deduction: Give a specific amount each pay period to one or more of the charities.
On the MCPS Cares website, staff can learn more about the three charity partners—The Community Foundation for Montgomery County, the MCPS Union Community Partnership Fund and the United Way of the National Capital Area.
Every contribution—no matter how small—will make a difference.
Fete with the French!
Celebrate French language and culture in Montgomery County at the fifth annual Francophone Festival on Saturday, Nov. 23. The event will be held from 10 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. There will be a variety of activities for the entire family, including art workshops, live entertainment, trivia games and a talent show.
The festival was started by a small group of French teachers in MCPS who wanted to encourage French teachers and their students to celebrate French language and culture in the community.

MLK Essay, Art Contest Open to All Students
MCPS students of all ages are encouraged to participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Literary Contest & Visual Arts Show. The 2014 theme is “Honoring the Legacy: Celebrate, Serve, Remember.” The essays and artwork should reflect an understanding and appreciation of the ideals of King’s life, achievements and aspirations. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6.
The contest is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee, the city of Gaithersburg and the Gazette Newspapers.
Student-Refurbished Cars, Computers to be Sold on Dec. 14
Students in the Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation (ATF) and Information Technology Foundation (ITF) will be selling used cars and computers that they have refurbished from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Damascus High School.

The cars and computers are refurbished and tested by the students as part of their classroom and lab studies.
Members of the community are welcome to donate vehicles to the program. Vehicles may be donated at any of the automotive programs located at Damascus, Gaithersburg, Seneca Valley or Thomas Edison high schools. A donation may be eligible for a tax deduction.
Give Warmth; Give a Child a Coat
The Prekindergarten/Head Start Program is seeking donations to provide 4- and 5-year-old students with new winter coats. Coat sizes 5, 6, 6X and 7/8 for boys and girls are most needed, but any donations of new coats or other winter wear, such as hats, gloves and scarves, are appreciated.
