Community leaders gathered Sept. 18 to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Seneca Valley High School. The revitalization/expansion project will replace the current school, which was built in 1974. The 439,346-square-foot building will have a projected capacity of 2,423 students and is expected to open for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
Gaithersburg Elementary Celebrates “Dads Take Your Child to School Day”
More than 100 fathers and other guardians participated in Gaithersburg Elementary School’s “Dads Take Your Child to School” event on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The event was organized by the school to highlight the importance of fathers and male role models in the healthy development of children and to encourage dads to play a more active role in their child’s education. After sharing coffee and donuts, the group visited classrooms to participate in the educational sessions. This event kicked off two monthly “Open House” opportunities to encourage parents to be more involved with the school community.
Baker Middle School Holds Annual Flag-Raising Ceremony
Hundreds of parents, staff, veterans and community members gathered at John T. Baker Middle School on Monday, Sept. 18, for its annual flag-raising ceremony. The ceremony marks the start of a new school year and the students’ commitment to academic excellence, hard work and good citizenship. It also is a time for the community to commemorate the life a former teacher who lost his life in the tragedy at the Pentagon on 9-11.
