October 22, 2013
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual movement to increase awareness of the disease and the importance of prevention efforts. Each October, women are reminded to schedule time for preventive screenings like monthly breast self-checks and annual mammograms.
Living a healthy lifestyle can also help prevent breast cancer. In studies, lifestyle changes have been shown to decrease breast cancer risk, even in high-risk women. To lower your risk:
- Limit alcohol.
- Don’t smoke.
- Control your weight.
- Get physically active.
