Towson University Offering Master’s Degree in Special Education
Towson University in partnership with MCPS, offers staff members who are certified in an area other than Special Education, a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Special Education with teacher certification in Special Education (Early Childhood, Elementary or Secondary). This three-year program offers evening courses at the Universities at Shady Grove. Candidates will not be required to take leave in order to complete the required internship. Towson offers a discounted tuition rate and qualified candidates will be eligible to apply for MCPS tuition reimbursement.
To be considered for admission, students must submit an application and official transcripts of all college work and provide a copy of a valid teaching certificate. A 3.0 GPA is required for full admission. A GPA between 2.75 and 2.99 may qualify an applicant for conditional admission.
Students should plan to apply in the fall for entrance into the program the following fall.
The application deadline is May 15.
An interest meeting will be held to learn more about the program from 4:30–6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Redwood Room at 45 W. Gude Dr. in Rockville.
