A Winning Fall Season for MCPS Student Athletes

The MPSSAA fall playoff and championship season wrapped up the first week of December with some exciting and historic wins for MCPS students this year.
Quince Orchard High School football beat C.H. Flowers High School to capture a second consecutive 4A State Championship title. Just days after QO’s win, Damascus High School joined them with a win over Oakdale High School to also capture a second 3A state title.
In the first-ever all-MCPS 4A girls soccer state championship game, Walt Whitman and Quince Orchard took the field at Loyola University for an energy filled game. Walt Whitman came out on top to capture a second consecutive state title and QO placed second.
The Poolesville High School boys cross country team and the Damascus High School cheerleading team won their respective 2A State Championship titles. This is the first-ever cheerleading championship title for MCPS. Congratulations to teams who also made it to the championship finals and placed second – Winston Churchill high school boys’ cross country and girls’ field hockey, Walter Johnson High School girls’ cross country, Poolesville girls’ cross country, and Sherwood High School’s cheerleading team which came in third.
