Our Search for a New MCPS Superintendent
By Patricia O’Neill
As we work to find a new superintendent for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), we want to hear what characteristics and traits you would like to see in our new leader. Our search firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, will be leading several community conversations this week to get your input. I hope that you can take a few minutes out of your busy schedule to come and share your views with the consultant. My colleagues and I will carefully review this feedback as we work to find the best possible leader to help us fulfill the vision, mission and core purpose of MCPS.
The four forums scheduled for this week are:
Wednesday, March 4, 2015, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
- Eastern Middle School, 300 University Boulevard East, Silver Spring
(Interpretation will be available in Amharic, French, and Spanish) - Walter Johnson High School, 6400 Rock Spring Drive, Bethesda
(Interpretation will be available in Korean and Spanish)
Thursday, March 5, 2015, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

(Interpretation will be available in Chinese, Korean, and Spanish) - Paint Branch High School, 14121 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville
(Interpretation will be available in French, Spanish, and Vietnamese)
Child care services (for ages 4 and older) will be provided at each location. Simultaneous interpretation will be available as noted above in Amharic, Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese. For sign language interpretation, please call 301-517-5539.
If you cannot attend one of these sessions in person, please take a few minutes to fill out our online survey to share your opinion with us.
Finally, to give you some additional insight into how the search process works, you can watch this special edition of Education Matters where I discuss the search process with Hank Gmitro, president of HYA.
Throughout this process, we will keep our superintendent search page updated, so check here for the latest updates.
