Anti-Vaping Symposium Set for February 27

MCPS is hosting a virtual anti-vaping symposium from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27. The event, which is open to staff, students, parents, health providers and community members, will provide information on the health risks of vaping, preventative measures and community resources that schools and families may access.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Ruben Baler, health scientist with the National Institute on Drug Abuse. He will discuss “The Adolescent Brain and the Vaping Epidemic.” Dr. Baler will speak on how vaping can derail kids’ developmental trajectories, and significantly impact their physical and mental well-being. Dr. Baler will provide critical knowledge to better protect young people from the dangers of vaping.
The event will also feature information from community and governmental organizations and live student panel discussions focused on why students vape and how to support their desire to stop.Student-created anti-vaping public service announcements will be showcased.
The symposium is co-sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.
