Leadership Opportunities Available for High School Students

There are two upcoming opportunities for MCPS high school students to be involved in leadership roles—the Maryland General Assembly Page Program, open to seniors; and the Maryland State Student Member of the Board of Education, available to sophomores and juniors.
There are multiple steps for each application process. Details are below:
Maryland General Assembly Page Program
Since 1970, Maryland’s high school seniors have had the opportunity to learn about the legislative process by serving as student pages in the Senate and the House of Delegates during the annual session of the Maryland General Assembly. Each year, 105 pages and 36 alternates are selected from across the State to represent their schools and counties in Annapolis.
The state has decided to move forward with the 2021 Maryland General Assembly Page Program by providing a virtual experience.

Maryland State Student Member of the Board of Education
High school sophomores and juniors can apply to become the 2021-2022 Student Member of the Maryland State Board of Education. The student appointed by the governor will serve a one-year term on the state board, from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022.
The school nomination form must be scanned and uploaded to this Google form available here or here by 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16. More information and the full information packet are available here.
The completed nominee application packet must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14. Note: Students should use their personal email address, as the Maryland Association of Student Councils cannot communicate to MCPS-issued student email accounts.
