Montgomery County is co-hosting a virtual forum, Break the Taboo on Youth Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder, from 6–8 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. The free event will be held on Zoom and will focus on supporting youth through mental health challenges and substance misuse. It will also include a resource fair where attendees will be able to speak with organization representatives in breakout rooms.

Parents, providers and community members will:

  • Hear from the Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on ways to support youth.
  • Learn how the MD Surgeon General’s Call to Action on Youth Mental Health is being implemented.

Students will:

  • Participate in breakout sessions and learn about substance use/mental health warning signs, coping skills and provide resources for help.
  • Earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for participating, and win an ice cream party for the school that has the most attendees.

Register here. You will receive a Zoom link to the email address you provide one week before the event.

Break the Taboo is a partnership between Montgomery County’s Mental Health Advisory Committee (MHAC), Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Advisory Council (AODAAC) and the Citizens Review Panel for Children.
