MCPS Sustainability Symposium Set for May 26

Secondary school students and staff are invited to join the first MCPS Sustainability Symposium at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26. During the event, attendees will hear feedback from the Climate Youth Town Hall held in February; learn about the new Division of Sustainability and Compliance, and meet curriculum team members. The symposium will also examine actions that MCPS has taken on climate change, discuss new initiatives the district plans to implement, and hear your ideas on how MCPS can do even more.
The Montgomery County Council declared a climate emergency in 2017. For more than a decade, the county has been committed to significant greenhouse gas reduction and climate action. The county is finalizing its Climate Action Plan, and is implementing related actions and legislation. MCPS staff and students have provided input and identified critical actions and activities to support the county’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2027 and 100 percent by 2035, while building a healthy, equitable and resilient community.
We all play critical roles in addressing climate change. How will you be a change agent at your school?
Register for the event here, and a Zoom invite will be sent to you.
