MCPS to Host Anti-Vaping Symposium March 28
MCPS is hosting an anti-vaping symposium from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 at Johns Hopkins University’s Montgomery County campus. Students and families will learn the impacts of vaping, how to prevent vaping, and resources for students and parents.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Ruben Baler, health scientist with the National Institute on Drug Abuse. He will be discussing “The Adolescent Brain and the Vaping Epidemic.” Dr. Baler will speak on how vaping can derail kids’ developmental trajectories, and degrade their physical and mental well-being. Dr. Baler will provide critical knowledge to better protect young people from the dangers of vaping.
The winners of the Let’s Clear the Air PSA contest will be announced at the event and attendees will have an opportunity to meet and hear from professional athletes from D.C. United, Washington Spirit, and the Capitals. Middle and high school student attendees will earn student service learning hours (SSL) for participation and advocacy.
The event will begin in the auditorium at Johns Hopkins’ Montgomery County Campus. The campus is located at 9601 Medical Center Dr. in Rockville.
