PeaceJam Youth Conference on April 23 Open to Students

PeaceJam Mid-Atlantic will host its annual youth conference, “Compassion in Action,” from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 at Northwood High School. The featured guest will be children’s rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kailash Satyarthi. Satyarthi is a human rights advocate in India who won the Nobel in 2014 for leading a global movement to end child slavery and exploitive child labor practices.
This leadership conference will provide high school students with the opportunity to spend the day with a world leader for peace and engage with hundreds of change agents from around the region. Students can register here. The fee to attend is $20, with all snacks and meals included. Scholarships are available.
Satyarthi is holding a public event open to all ages at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center, 7995 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Admission is free; proof of vaccination is required. There is also a Peace Festival from 1–4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24 at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, 1800 Piccard Dr. in Rockville.
MCPS is in its second year of partnering with PeaceJam Mid-Atlantic, a regional affiliate of the international education program that connects youth with Nobel Peace Prize winners. PeaceJam and MCPS have delivered a weekly virtual leadership development program to high school students focused on community engagement and connection.
