Poster and Essay Contests Open for Entries

Sustainability Poster Contest Deadline: April 3
All MCPS students and staff are invited to participate in the Division of Sustainability and Compliance 2023 Sustainability Poster Contest. The contest seeks to increase awareness and demonstrate the importance of environmental sustainability, energy conservation, waste reduction and responsible recycling.
Entries are due by 4 p.m. on Monday, April 3. For more information, visit the contest webpage.
Wheaton Arts Parade Poster Contest Open to Montgomery County Residents
Entries are being accepted for the 7th Annual Wheaton Arts Parade and Festival poster contest. The deadline to submit entries is Friday, April 14.
The poster contest is open to anyone who lives or works in Montgomery County. Entries must be an original design that celebrates art and Wheaton’s diverse cultures and communicates the fun-filled spirit of a parade and art festival. The theme for 2023 is “Art to Action: Before we can make our world a better place, we need a vision of the future that inspires us to act.”
The winning design will be used on all promotional materials for the parade and festival, which will take place in downtown Wheaton from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15. The winner will receive a $500 prize.

Girl Power Essay Contest Open for Submissions
In recognition of March as Women’s History Month, the Montgomery County Commission for Women, Montgomery County Public Libraries and Friends of the Library, Montgomery County is holding its Sixth Annual “Girl Power Contest.” County residents, ages 5 and older, are encouraged to submit a short story, poem, drawing or entry that addresses this year’s theme.
Entries are due midnight on Friday, March 31.
In 2022, the Montgomery County Council made history as voters elected the county’s first female-majority council. In honor of this, entrants are asked to write on the following theme: We now have six women on the Montgomery County Council. What advice would you give them to make sure our community is a place where women and girls can feel safe and encouraged?
