14th Annual Champions for Children Awards Ceremony Set for May 3
Be sure to join MCPS staff, supporters and community members at the 14th Annual Champions for Children Awards Celebration on Tuesday, May 3, from 5:30–8:30 pm at Wheaton High School, located at 12401 Dalewood Dr. in Silver Spring.
The annual celebration, presented by MCPS in partnership with the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE), connects the business community, MCPS and community leaders to recognize and reward quality teaching, outstanding leadership and exceptional supporting services staff in MCPS schools. At the event, the MCPS Teacher of the Year finalists—Andrea Segovia from Ashburton Elementary School, Kimberly Skufca from Shady Grove Middle School, and Michael Williams from Kennedy High School will be honored.
The event will also honor the Marian Greenblatt Rising Star Teachers of the Year, Samir Paul from Montgomery Blair High School and Kaila Wiggins from Clopper Mill Elementary School; the MCPS Supporting Services Employee of the Year, Craig Stewart from Winston Churchill High School; and the Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision Award recipient, E. Frank Kaplan, principal of Strawberry Knoll Elementary School. The celebration will also recognize Cigna as the Business Champion of the Year, and Melissa McKenna, secretary for the Montgomery County Council of PTAs and past president of the Maryvale Elementary School PTA, as Volunteer Champion of the Year.
The MCPS Teacher of the Year will be announced during the celebration. The event is free but an RSVP is requested by April 18.
