This Black History Month, MCPS is sharing stories from former Carver High School students.
In September of 1951, George Washington Carver High School opened in Rockville, becoming the only modern secondary educational facility built for black students in Montgomery County. Today, the building serves as the central office for MCPS. Listen to Carver graduate Howard Bell talk about his experience attending school during segregation.
MCPS also interviewed former student Margaret Simons about her experiences during segregation and being a student at an all-white school during integration. Simons attended Carver High School before transferring to Gaithersburg High School for her senior year. Watch her story.
