Board of Education to Hold Public Hearing March 2 on the SRO Program
The Montgomery County Board of Education will hold a virtual public hearing on the School Resource Officer (SRO) program on Tuesday, March 2. Based on the numbers of testimony requests received, the Board may hold a second virtual public hearing on Thursday, March 4. Testimony will be accepted in written or pre-recorded video/audio formats.
The current SRO program supports all 25 high schools and one alternative program in MCPS. Members of the SRO Work Group offered 17 tentative recommendations for the Board to consider in order to meet the “adequate local law enforcement coverage” mandate of the Maryland Safe to Learn Act of 2018. Final recommendations on the future of the SRO program will be brought to the Board by May.
Registration for individuals wishing to provide testimony for the March 2 hearing closes on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. More information about providing testimony can be found here.
