Coming April 22: The 50th Anniversary of Earth Day
April 22, 2020 will mark the 50th anniversary of the very first Earth Day celebration. That remarkable day in 1970 was recognized as the world’s largest civic event. Since then, people around the world spotlight the planet’s environment by holding activities on or around April 22 to raise public awareness about the negative effects pollution has on Mother Earth.
Some schools celebrate by holding special assemblies or school spirit weeks. Other schools host community cleanup activities, plant trees or work in community gardens. Send us an email about what your school is doing and we may feature it in The Bulletin!
If you’re looking for ideas, the School Energy and Recycling Team (SERT) has already done some of the groundwork for you. Be sure to check out the Earth Day movement website and the Environmental Protection Agency’s website. Find activities, lessons and craft ideas here and here.
