Conference Focused on Partnerships Set for Nov. 2
MCPS and Montgomery College are partnering to offer the first Maryland Innovative Educational Partnerships (MIEP) Conference on Monday, Nov. 2. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. in the Bioscience Education Building on the Germantown campus, 20200 Observation Dr. in Germantown.
The conference will include secondary and postsecondary representatives; community and business leaders, and policymakers from around the state interested in creating innovative partnerships that build strong and effective academic bridges between high school and college, and enabling the development of an educated workforce in Maryland. The event is free; lunch will be provided.

The event is sponsored by MCPS, Montgomery College, the Maryland State Department of Education, the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education, and the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships.
Book Festival Seeking Entries for Short Story Contest
High school students living in the Washington, D.C. metro area are invited to submit short stories to the Gaithersburg Short Story Contest, part of the Gaithersburg Book Festival. Stories can be no longer than 1,000 words, and must be submitted electronically as a Word document. Only one submission per author is allowed. The deadline is midnight on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016.
Up to 12 stories will be selected as finalists. Finalists will have their stories posted on the Festival website prior to the event. The top three stories will be announced at the Book Festival on Saturday, May 21, 2016.
