More than 100 students received their high school diplomas during a summer school graduation ceremony at Richard Montgomery High School earlier this month. Many of the students overcame significant challenges on the way to finishing the final chapter of their high school journey. The day’s speaker was Board of Education member Lynne Harris, who congratulated the students and their families. Watch the video.
Paint Branch Football Players, Cheerleaders Fill and Distribute Backpacks
Football players and cheerleaders at Paint Branch High School filled about 1,000 backpacks with school supplies and distributed them to families in the community. This is the second year the team has participated in the event with The Dunn Foundation, which donated the supplies. The backpacks were donated to students at Paint Branch feeder schools Briggs Chaney and Benjamin Banneker middle schools and to families at The Shops at Iverson in Temple Hills. Watch the video.
MCPS Students Place in National SkillsUSA Contest
Seven MCPS students placed in the national SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta in June. The students showcased their skills and networked with their peers from across the U.S. Students who placed in the competition are:
- Allison Rowell, Sherwood High School: First in national T-shirt Design
- Zulema Esparza Ornelas, Albert Einstein High School and Stephanie Chavez Ramos, Wheaton High School: Fourth in Nail Care
- Ritwik Dobriyal, Walter Johnson High School and Adam Lederer, Clarksburg High School: Seventh in Cybersecurity
- Gerardo Rios, Watkins Mill High School: 18th in Plumbing
- Gabriela Garcia, Springbrook High School: 18th in Customer Service
- Jaiden Wippenbeck, Walter Johnson High School: 24th in T-Shirt Design
- Triana Peralta Dellosantos, Albert Einstein High School: 30th for First Aid/CPR
- Donavin Bickel, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School: 11th in the preliminary round
