A 2022 Walter Johnson High School graduate, Marie Andre (Joyce) Onana Mfege has been named a Dovey Johnson Roundtree Scholar at Spelman College this fall. She is one of 20 students to receive the scholarship, which includes the full cost of tuition, fees, room and board. While at Walter Johnson, Joyce was a member of the Minority Scholars Program (MSP). She was a town hall organizer and facilitator, assisting with planning and organizing topics for staff and students related to identifying micro-aggressions. Her efforts contributed to the English department offering an African American literature course for the first time.
