Hundreds of MCPS, nonprofit and local government representatives gathered at the 20th Annual School Community United in Partnership (SCUP) Conference on Oct. 4. This year’s theme was Resiliency in the Face of Loss and Hardship, and topics covered included building resilience; suicide and substance abuse prevention; coping with separation and divorce; supporting victims of child abuse and neglect; and immigration, loss and trauma. The keynote speaker was Montgomery County Councilman Gabe Albornoz.
Each year, the conference emphasizes barriers affecting the equal opportunity and development of MCPS children, and offers strategies to approach them. The group has worked to promote school-based supports in the areas of mental health and social services to ensure equity.
