Claire Xu
Claire Xu, student at Montgomery Blair High School, won third prize in the Viola category in the ninth triennial Johansen International Competition last month. Of 152 applications, 30 semifinalists were chosen to come to Washington, D.C., to compete. She won a $5,000 prize. Xu is a student of David Foster, a principal violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra. Foster’s career includes orchestral, chamber and solo playing, as well as teaching.
VAC Student Wins Big at Art Competition

Tenzin Rangdol
Tenzin Rangdol, a student in the Visual Arts Center program at Albert Einstein High School, won the L. Ron Hubbard’s Illustrators of the Future Contest, Volume 38, an international competition. He was honored at an awards gala in Hollywood, Calif. He plans a career in career illustration.
