Higher Ed, Continuing Ed Partnerships Offering Virtual Meetings
The Office of Human Resources and Development, in partnership with local colleges and universities, will host several virtual information sessions for employees who want to begin teacher preparation programs, or for current teachers and other employees who want to pursue continuing education opportunities for the 2020-2021 school year. Interested employees should register for the information sessions on PDO. Information sessions will be recorded for review by employees who are unable to attend scheduled meetings.
Teacher Preparation Partnerships
Teacher Preparation Partnerships are pathways available to supporting services employees seeking initial certification to teach in specific content areas. Upcoming information sessions are listed below. RSVP on PDO to receive the meeting link and detailed program information.
University of Maryland (UMD) Creative Initiatives in Teacher Education (CITE), Thursday, June 4, 4:30-5:30 p.m. RSVP on PDO using course #87596
- UMD CITE participants, who already hold bachelor’s degrees, work as paraeducators during the program. CITE prepares participants to become general education teachers in grades 1-6. The next cohort will begin in January of 2021.
- BSU offers accelerated summer courses to support employees, who are identified as conditional licensed teachers, to receive licensure (certification). Courses are offered in a weekly accelerated model and are eligible for graduate credit. BSU Summer 2020 Institute Course Descriptions and Schedule
- UMGC and UMBC prepare supporting services employees to become teachers for secondary (grades 7-12) science, math and computer science. UMBC prepares supporting services employees who hold bachelor’s degrees to become ESOL teachers. Rolling admission is available.
Continuing Education and Educational Leadership Partnerships
Continuing Education and Educational Leadership partnerships are also continuing to recruit. They offer information sessions for interested employees who hold initial teacher certification.
Ongoing Summer Recruitment
The McDaniel College partnership continues to recruit for the master’s degree and graduate certificate pathways for educational leadership, which leads to Administrator I certification. To be eligible for the partnership for education leadership, employees should have five or more consecutive years of successful classroom teaching experience and tenure. Deadline: September 11, 2020.
