How Will You Help Students Be Well 365?
During the 2019–2020 school year, MCPS will focus on promoting and enhancing students’ physical, social and psychological well-being in an initiative called Be Well 365. An integral component of the MCPS Equity Accountability Model, Be Well 365 will support students from prekindergarten through Grade 12 to maximize their development; help them become ready to learn; and interact effectively with peers, staff members and the community.
Be Well 365 is a cross-office collaboration spearheaded by the Office of Student and Family Support and Engagement (OSFSE). The initiative focuses on Six Essentials that are critical for all students:
- Culturally Responsive Relationship Building
- Mental and Emotional Health
- Character Education and Empathy
- Trauma Informed Practices
- Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices
- Physical Health and Wellness
Be Well 365 asks staff to embed the Six Essentials in the regular school day and curriculum through daily announcements, community circles, trauma-informed approaches to student needs, or culturally appropriate and diverse learning experiences, using resources available in the myMCPS Be Well 365 classroom.
MCPS will highlight practices and ideals aligned to the Six Essentials throughout the year. As students and families are welcomed back to school this month, the focus is on Culturally Responsive Relationship Building. How will you, as school-based or central office staff members, reach out to students and families in a positive, collaborative manner to get to know them, their experiences and histories?
In November, MCPS will focus on mental and emotional health, including a Mental Health Forum set for on Saturday, Nov. 9, and Mental Health Week (November 11–15). More details are coming soon.
Be Well 365 is a districtwide initiative for all schools, all staff members, and all students. Share your ideas and successes with OSFSE as you encourage everyone in your building to Be Well 365!
