Howard Professor to Offer Keynote at Mental Health Fair
Celeste Malone, associate professor and coordinator of the school psychology program at Howard University, will deliver the keynote address at the MCPS Mental Health Fair on Saturday, Nov. 9. She will speak on the topic, Breaking Barriers to Access Youth Mental Health Care.
Dr. Malone received a Ph.D. in school psychology from Temple University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in child clinical and pediatric psychology at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Medicine. She received a master’s degree in school counseling from JHU. Her primary research interest relates to multicultural and diversity issues embedded in the training and practice of school psychology.
Dr. Malone serves on the National Association of School Psychologists’ (NASP) Board of Directors, and works closely with NASP boards and committees to develop and implement programs and activities to address social justice issues in school psychology and education. She is also an elected member of the American Psychological Association Board of Educational Affairs.
The MCPS Mental Health Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 9 at Gaithersburg High School. Students, staff members and the community will be able to learn about community and school resources that support students’ physical, social and psychological well-being. The event is being sponsored by the Office of Student and Family Support and Engagement and the Montgomery County Psychologists’ Association.
