In Memoriam

Carolyn Franklin, a 22-year employee who retired from MCPS in the late 1990s, died on Dec. 8. At the time of her retirement, she worked in staff development. She was 84 years old.
Ann M. Haughton, counselor at Northwood High School, died on Dec. 16. She was 56 years old and had nearly 20 years of service to MCPS.
Sergio A. Pereira, building service worker at Springbrook High School, died on Dec. 1. He was 55 years old, and had more than 27 years of service to MCPS.
Great Staff
Artwork from four staff members was shown at The Music Center at Strathmore as part of the National Philharmonic’s Color the Music project. The project involved listening to selected music that was performed at a Nov. 2 ABBA concert and responding to that music by creating disco paintings.
The teachers are: Sara Lucas-Dreiss, art and special education teacher at Longview School, Amanda Foust, art teacher at Galway and Burtonsville elementary schools and at Stephen Knolls School; Anavi Amegashi, art and ESOL teacher at Carl Sandburg Learning Center; and Patricia Touchette, art teacher at Fallsmead and Kensington Parkwood elementary schools.

STEM teacher Zulay Joa was the keynote speaker at Japan’s International Cooperation Agency. She delivered speeches on Industrial Tech Ed in the US & STEM Education Related to Sustainable Development. What an honor!
