MCPS Educators Celebrated at National Board Certification Ceremony
Fifty MCPS teachers were recognized on Jan. 29 for earning certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. There were also 32 educators who renewed their certification. MCPS now has 709 National Board Certified Teachers. Montgomery County surpasses all other districts in Maryland and ranks ninth among school districts in the nation in the number of new National Board Certified educators.
For those interested in learning more about National Board Certification, informational meetings will be held from 4:30–6 p.m. at MCEA, 12 Taft Court in Rockville, on the following dates:
- Feb. 10, 18, 26
- March 4, 11, 19
- April 14 (April 15 and 16 are snow dates)

Learn More about Becoming a Pupil Personnel Worker
The Division of Pupil Personnel Services is hosting an open house for anyone interested in learning more about being a pupil personnel worker (PPW). The open house is being held from 4:30–6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 at MCEA, 12 Taft Court in Rockville. (The snow date is 4-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 in the Maple Room at 45 W. Gude Dr. in Rockville). Register on PDO; the course number is 85514.
The event will cover what PPWs do in their jobs, how to get certified and how to navigate the selection process.

University of Maryland Offers Master’s in Middle School Mathematics
The University of Maryland, College Park is offering a master’s degree program in middle school mathematics.
Program candidates are prepared to become highly qualified middle school mathematics teachers. A three-year master’s program, candidates are required to complete 30 credits of coursework in mathematics, mathematics education and teacher research. This program is appropriate for current middle school math teachers with elementary certification, or for teachers who wish to teach mathematics at the middle school level.
The cohort in the fall of 2015 is still accepting applications. Courses are offered at The Universities of Maryland at Shady Grove. The application is available here.
