NAACP Parents’ Council Holds Kickoff Meeting
The NAACP Parents’ Council held its annual kickoff meeting at Northwest High School on Nov. 19.
This year’s theme was “Championing Equity and Excellence in Education.” The keynote speaker was John B. King, Jr., former U.S. Secretary of Education from 2016–2017. He is president and CEO of The Education Trust.
Breakout sessions focused on ensuring all students have access to advanced coursework and effective relationships. There was also a student town hall with students in the Minority Scholars Program that discussed their experiences with rigorous coursework, teaching practices, and relationships with teachers and counselors.
