New Paraeducator Orientation Set for October
MCPS is offering a virtual orientation to new paraeducators in October. The orientation will be offered from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 24. Paraeducators can choose which day they wish to attend. This recommended training is for new paraeducators only. Attendees will be paid $20 per hour. The paraeducator training is available here.
It includes the following workshops:
- Roles and Responsibilities in the Classroom
- Building a Content-Accessible Classroom
- Engaging Students in Virtual Learning
- Understanding the Special Needs Program in MCPS
New paraeducators will also have the opportunity to complete an additional three hours of specific trainings within the two weeks after the event for a total of seven hours of paid training under the New Paraeducator Orientation (NPO) category. The NPO seven hours of training are separate from SPT10 trainings. SPT10 trainings are learning opportunities for 10-month employees, during which supporting services staff can be eligible to be paid for an additional eight hours of training completed during the school year.
**If you have previously taken this course, or if you are NOT currently a paraeducator, you are not eligible to attend and you will not be compensated.
