Nominations Open for Distinguished Service Awards

The Montgomery County Board of Education is accepting nominations for the 2017–2018 Awards for Distinguished Service to Public Education. The awards are sponsored by the Board to recognize and show appreciation to those who have made exemplary contributions to public education, including students, groups and organizations.

Nominations will be accepted in the following categories:

  • Community individual
  • Community group
  • Business
  • Montgomery County Public Schools staff
  • School service volunteer
  • Individual pioneer

“Individual Pioneer” award nominees are individuals who may not be active currently, but have made extraordinary contributions in the past. The nominee’s contributions must have had a profound effect on the school system over a sustained period of time.

Nominations in other categories must be of individuals (including MCPS students), groups or organizations that have, within the past three years, provided service, support and commitment to public education as demonstrated by:

  • An outstanding contribution of time and expertise to MCPS programs
  • Development and/or implementation of an exemplary program or project, or
  • A contribution that resulted in systemwide benefit

Nomination forms are available in six languages on the Board of Education website. To receive a nomination form by mail, call 301-279-3617.

Completed nomination forms must be received in the Board office by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 1. Complete and submit forms online or send completed forms by mail, email or fax to: Montgomery County Board of Education, 850 Hungerford Dr., Room 123, Rockville, MD, 20850; fax to 301-279-3860, or email to Becky Gibson.
