Paint Branch PTSA President Wins Volunteer Award
Larry Edmonds is the Paint Branch Cluster Coordinator and president of the school’s PTSA, but his activities and accomplishments have had an impact on students throughout Montgomery County. He has been named this year’s recipient of the Volunteer Champion for Children by the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE).
He has worked on developing community-wide programs for elementary, middle and high school students. He was also instrumental in lobbying the legislative arm of the Montgomery County Council of PTAs to gain momentum—and ultimately passage—for bills such as the Dream Act in Maryland.
Edmonds, who has one daughter in the school system, has worked hard to build relationships with government officials and representatives, always pushing education as a top priority.
In addition, for many years at Paint Branch, he served as the after-prom chairman, and coached football to at-risk young adults through a specialized developmental program.
Edmonds was recognized at MCBRE’s annual celebration on April 21.
