The Gaithersburg Book Festival is hosting a poetry contest, open to high school students across the Washington metropolitan area.

Original submissions are due by midnight on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022. The poem should be on one of three topics: freedom, escape or community. Authors can submit one poem.

Up to 12 poems will be selected as finalists. The finalists will have their poems posted on the Gaithersburg Book Festival website prior to the festival. They also will be asked to record a video of themselves reading their poem for publication on our website (which requires a signed waiver).

First, second and third place winners will receive $250, $100 and $50 gift certificates. A fan favorite poem, selected by voting on the website, will receive a $25 gift certificate.
