Registration for Continuing Professional Development Courses Opens Dec. 16
REGISTER EARLY – Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for the spring semester 2014 will be released on the Professional Development Online (PDO) system on Monday Dec. 16, at 8:30 a.m. The spring semester runs from mid-January through May.
Those who wish to participate are urged to register early because some of the courses fill up quickly. Teachers have priority registration in all CPD courses. Support professional staff and substitute teachers may register on PDO for CPD courses but will be considered on a space-available basis.
The CPD registration fee will be assessed to permanent employees via payroll deductions after the successful completion of the course. Employees with outstanding balances must clear their accounts before registering for new classes. Employees on long-term leave should contact the CPD office to make payment arrangements.

University of Maryland Offers Tuition-Free Master’s
The University of Maryland is pleased to announce a new Master’s in Special Education Degree program which will include a fellowship covering full tuition for the cohort of 16 participants. This two-year, 36-credit hour Master’s degree (M.Ed.) is designed for teachers who hold current certification in Special Education. Classes will begin in the spring of 2014.
This program has a focus on students with autism spectrum disorders and includes an endorsement in Severe Disabilities. Classes for this program will be held in western Montgomery County and possibly other western Maryland counties. Scholars who receive federal funding from the University of Maryland for graduate study are required to provide work related to training for a period of two years for every year of funding.

Information sessions will be held at the Center for Technology Innovation, 4 Choke Cherry Road in Rockville, on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 3:30 p.m. and on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 4:30 p.m. Register on PDO to attend. Please note that you do not have to attend the information sessions to apply for this M.Ed.
