Rosa Parks Middle School Hosting Webinar on Equity
Rosa Parks Middle School is hosting a webinar, Equitable Access to a Quality Education, on Thursday, Feb. 14.
The webinar will be available from 11:15 a.m.–1:15 p.m. Its panelists will include:
- Lily Eskelson Garcia, president of the National Education Association
- Jason Reynolds, New York Times best-selling author of young adult novels, including Ghost and All American Boys
- Nadia Lopez, founding principal of Mott Hall Bridges Academy, a public school in New York
The school was invited to participate in the webinar by the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives organization. Rosa Parks has sponsored a Student Diversity Leadership Team (SDLT) since 2014. This group of students has worked in the school and in the community to focus on providing equity and a welcoming environment for all students. The SDLT works to promote diversity and cultural proficiency by using their voice to be advocates, models and examples of equity.
Members of the SDLT have been preparing for the event by reading Frederick Douglass’ autobiography, developing questions for the panelists and engaging in community circles to discuss the topic.
