Scholarships Available to Staff
Two groups are offering scholarships to MCPS staff.
The Montgomery County Public Schools Retirees Association (MCPSRA) will award $1,500 scholarships to MCPS teachers and staff members to help defray the costs of course work in a recognized educational program for the summer or fall of 2021.
There are two scholarship categories:
- The Louise S. Walker Scholarship is open to teachers. Louise Walker was a teacher, principal and supervisor who retired from MCPS in 1968.
- MCPSRA Scholarships are open to any MCPS employee.
Any staff member currently employed by MCPS is eligible to apply. Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicants’ educational goals and financial needs. The award may be used toward the cost of tuition, books or other expenses.
The scholarship application needs to be printed, filled out and mailed to:
Dr. Carol M. Dahlberg, president, MCPSRA
8800 Damascus Road
Damascus, MD 20872
The deadline to submit applications is Thursday, May 6.
In addition, the Maryland Beta chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary sorority for women educators, is offering a $1,500 scholarship for educators in MCPS or employees who wish to become educators.
The scholarship is available to MCPS employees studying to become a teacher, counselor or other educational specialist. It may also be used for professional development at a college or university to enhance the education of an MCPS teacher, counselor or other educational specialist. The scholarship must be used within one year from the date of notification of selection. Interested individuals should email Janet Burton for an application.
The deadline to submit applications is Friday, April 30.
