Hundreds of MCPS students, staff and community members celebrated International Walk to School Day on October 4. The annual event promotes pedestrian safety, physical activity and cleaner air. Superintendent Jack Smith, Montgomery County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett and representatives from the Montgomery County Police and Fire and Rescue departments joined members of the Ronald McNair Elementary School community for the walk to the school.
Engaging Students with Coding
Students at Albert Einstein High School participated in a coding boot camp on Sept. 28, thanks to partnerships with the Information Technology Trade Foundation, Hispanic Heritage Foundation and Verizon.
Volunteers Motivate Students to Pursue STEM Careers
About 100 scientists, engineers and physicians volunteer in MCPS schools through the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Senior Scientists and Engineers (SSE) programs. The volunteers assist K–12 science and engineering teachers throughout the year by giving demonstrations, assisting in lab experiments, lecturing on special topics and assisting with homework.
