Seeking Nominations for Outstanding Administrator Award
Nominations are being accepted through 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 for the Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision. The annual award recognizes an outstanding MCPS administrator or supervisor, and is presented by the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP) and the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE).
The award will be announced at the Champions for Children Gala in April. Also announced at that event will be the Montgomery County Teacher of the Year and Supporting Services Employee of the Year.
Nominees must be a Montgomery County administrator or supervisor for at least five years and current voting member of MCAAP. The nominee should exhibit high qualities of leadership, human resources development, resource management, interpersonal skills, professional involvement, and community and stakeholder involvement. All MCPS staff and community organizations may submit nominations.

Completed applications and supporting documents must be submitted to MCAAP by 5 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2014. The application is available here.
New Award Will Recognize Security Staff Members
The Department of School Safety and Security, along with SEIU Local 500, is launching an employee recognition program for school security staff. The program will honor school security staff members who demonstrate leadership by going above and beyond their assigned duties to promote the advancement and well-being of students and staff. A security staff member or security team will be recognized each semester.
Nominations are due Friday, Dec. 13. Administrators, staff, students or parents may submit a nomination letter, which should include details on why the security staff member or security team demonstrates leadership.

MCABSE Has $1,000 Mini-Grants Available to School-Based Staff
The Montgomery County Alliance of Black School Educators (MCABSE) has made $1,000 mini-grants available to school-based staff to support programs that enable student success, provide academic intervention and assist in closing the achievement gap. The deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 20.

A retirement celebration is being held for Hia Kim, supervisor, Technology Service and Support, at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16 in the cafeteria at Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Dr. in Rockville. She has 28 years of service with MCPS. There is no cost to attend, but donations toward the gift and refreshments are being accepted.
