Seeking Staff Volunteers for the Back-to-School Fair on Aug. 23
The Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships (OCEP) is seeking staff volunteers for the annual MCPS Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. on the grounds of the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Dr. in Rockville. All MCPS students and their families are invited to attend this event to kick off the school year and to learn about school system and county programs and services, while enjoying free entertainment and children’s activities. Last year, MCPS welcomed more than 7,000 students and their families.
Staff volunteers could be assigned a range of tasks, such as helping with fair set up and clean up, children’s activities, vendor support and water and snack distribution.
Ella Coberly, cafeteria manager at North Bethesda Middle School, has provided critical support for the past five years at the Exhibitor Check-In table. She has helped provide a smooth check-in experience for the more than 100 community organizations and MCPS offices that staff the resource tables.
“As a 35-year employee of MCPS, volunteering at the Back-to-School Fair feels like a good way to give back,” Coberly said. “It’s a fun event filled with bright-eyed students just waiting for the first day of school. What a great way to end the summer and begin the school year!”
Specifically, OCEP is looking for adult volunteers to serve as team leaders to provide support in key areas of the fair. If you are interested, complete the MCPS Back-to-School Fair Volunteer Interest Form for Staff. A staff member from the Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships will follow up with more information.
