Thinking About Retirement?
This school year, the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) has offered Retirement Informational Sessions and Forms Workshops in two ways: in-person and recorded webinar. In the fall, ERSC resumed its in-person sessions for socially distanced, smaller groups. ERSC has also maintained recorded webinars on its website. The webinars provide a helpful and convenient alternative for those considering retirement within the next two years by providing all of the information needed to ensure the transition from employee to retiree goes smoothly.
Topics for each Retirement Informational Session include a timeline for retirement, eligibility, benefit formulas, leave payout, post-retirement health and life insurance and taxes.
After deciding to retire and attending a Retirement Informational Session, you may want to attend a Forms Workshop or watch a recorded webinar. During these workshops, ERSC staff members present all required retirement forms, explain how to complete them and answer questions.
You will find links to the schedule of in-person sessions and to the recorded webinars on the MCPS Retirement Informational and Forms Webinars webpage. To register for any remaining spots in an in-person Informational Session or Forms Workshop, log in to Professional Development Online (PDO) and search for “Retirement.” Be sure to check the ERSC website prior to registering for or attending an event, as dates, times, and availability are subject to change.
Prior to attending a session/workshop or viewing the webinars, be sure to log in to PenPoint, the self-service retirement system for MCPS employees, where you can determine your pension plan membership. You may also find it helpful to review Understanding Your Retirement, a booklet that will guide you through the retirement process.
