Training Opportunities Open for Supporting Services Staff

The Office of Human Resources and Development is holding five training opportunities for supporting services employees in February and March.
SPT10: Computer Training for Beginners, Monday, Feb. 24, and Wednesday, Feb. 26, 4:30–6:30 p.m., 15 W. Gude Dr. This class is for staff members who have little or no experience using a computer. Learn the basics of using a keyboard and mouse; using Outlook to send and receive messages; create, save, send and open an attachment. Participants will also learn to navigate the web with an emphasis on accessing MCPS website features. Course #85892
School Finance Workshop for Aspiring Financial Agents, Wednesday, March 4, 9 a.m.–noon, Upcounty Regional Services Center, Room 3F. School financial agents are school financial specialists, elementary school administrative secretaries and others involved in handling Independent Activity Funds. This class will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the position, and basic management of funds. Course #52631
SPT10: Future Leaders Series, Tuesdays, starts March 10, 4:30–6:30 p.m., 15 W. Gude Dr., These four two-hour sessions will explore leadership opportunities within MCPS, examine what is expected of MCPS leaders and supervisors, learn how managers and supervisors got where they are, sharpen interview skills and learn how to create effective resumes and cover letters. Business English Grammar, Friday, March 13, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Upcounty Regional Services Center, Room 3F. Build skills to project a professional image on paper by using appropriate language without errors in grammar, usage and punctuation. Excel: Charting Data, Friday, March 13, 9 a.m.–noon, 15 W. Gude Dr., Center for Technology Innovation, Room 338. This instructor-led course covers tools needed to illustrate numeric data in to pie, bar, line or column charts. For users who have experience with Microsoft Excel and need to learn more intermediate/advanced features. Course #88630
