University of Maryland Offering Master’s in Math, Teaching Certification
The University of Maryland, College Park is offering a continuing education opportunity for MCPS teachers already certified in elementary education, special education or ESOL—a master’s degree in mathematics for middle grades. These teachers should be teaching or planning to teach in 4th through 9th grade classrooms.
An information meeting will be held from 4:30–5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the Office of Human Resources and Development, Maple Room, First Floor. RSVP on PDO with course #86566.
This is a 30-credit, three-year master’s degree program that prepares teachers to become highly qualified in middle grades mathematics by strengthening their content and professional knowledge in teaching mathematics to students in diverse school settings. This research-based program involves coursework in mathematics content and education curriculum-based integrated content and pedagogy courses, as well as an action research course. Courses are held at The Universities at Shady Grove.

University of Maryland Offering Teaching Certification in Several Subjects
Do you have an interest in earning teaching certification in secondary math, science, computer science, French or Spanish? If you have considered earning your master’s degree and certification to teach ESOL, then be sure to attend!
The University of Maryland Global Campus (formerly the University of Maryland University College) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County will host an information meeting from 4:30–5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the Office of Human Resources and Development, 45 W. Gude Dr. in Rockville.
UMGC offers pathways for MCPS support professionals interested in earning initial certification at the secondary (grades 7-12) in:
- Computer science
Undergraduate pathways are also available and upon successful completion, individuals can enter the Master of Arts partnership to earn teaching certification.
