Do you know what leave options you have should you or a family member become infected with COVID-19? MCPS’ leave policies have been modified to accommodate the virus and its impact on our lives.

Up to 80 hours (or 10 days) per school year of paid Unusual and Imperative leave (UIS) is available to vaccinated staff members (or those with approved medical exemptions) who have tested positive for COVID-19 or must quarantine due to exposure. This leave also is available to any employee who must care for a family member who lives in the same household and has tested positive or must quarantine.

To apply for COVID-19 leave, employees must complete MCPS Form 430-1C, Request for COVID Sick Leave and email it to the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) with one of the supporting medical documents listed on the ERSC webpage. Employees are asked to report their leave as SCK on their timesheets until they receive approval for COVID-19 leave. Once the leave is approved, the timekeeper must submit a PACS correction to change SCK to UIS for the reported and approved COVID-19 leave hours.

For more information about COVID-19 leave, please visit the ERSC webpage.
