Upcoming Sessions to Offer Information on Early College Program
Montgomery College (MC) is expanding the Early College (EC) program at all three of its campuses. The EC program provides qualified students the opportunity to earn an associate degree in a specific content area.
Two upcoming information sessions will offer more details on the program:
Montgomery College Germantown Early College Pathways Information Session
- Tuesday, Oct. 8, 7 p.m.
- Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, Globe Hall, High Technology and Science Center
Montgomery College Takoma Park Early College Pathways Information Session
- Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m.
- Montgomery College, Takoma Park Campus, Cultural Arts Center
In the EC program, students complete their junior and senior years of high school while simultaneously completing their first two years of college. They graduate with an associate degree from Montgomery College, as well as a Maryland high school diploma.
To participate in the program, students must have at least the following at the time of application (additional requirements vary by degree program):
- Be enrolled in 10th grade at an MCPS high school during the current school year;
- Passed mathematics and English state assessments;
- Have an unweighted GPA of 2.75 or higher;
- Met or be near completion of required Student Service Learning hours; and
- Completed an interest form and attended an information session.
The tuition and textbook cost for all courses required for the MC degree and Maryland high school diploma are covered. College fees are also covered for select students who qualify for financial assistance.
MCPS will provide transportation from various centralized locations to Richard Montgomery High School and then to the Rockville college campus. Students may also use the RideOn bus system or the MC shuttle bus system between campuses, as part of their MC student benefits. Students may also provide their own transportation.
Space in the program is limited. If there are more eligible students who apply than seats available, a lottery will conducted.
Information about applying to the Early College program for the 2020-2021 school year will be sent mid-October via the MCPS Parent Portal. All applications must be completed by the Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 deadline.
