Use Caution with Emails: Phishing on the Rise
MCPS has seen an increase in the number of phishing emails being sent to staff. Here are a few important reminders about safe computing.
- Confirm the validity of the sender of any emails. Err on the side of caution and do not hesitate to ask for verification. Even for emails that do not include the “[EXTERNAL]” warnings, question who is sending you email with links or requests to take action.
- Never give your user credentials or any personal information to anyone, especially when prompted to do so in a suspicious or unusual link.
- If you are not sure about the validity of an email, forward the questionable email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Any doubts? Ask your ITSS or supervisor or contact the Help Desk (301-517-5800 or at the Help Desk portal on the staff website).
The threat against users and your personal information is very real. Thank you for doing your part to help keep your information safe.
